Leading human resources

Leadership is hard, it’s hard to know what’s wrong and what’s right, is there any wrong or right, we think that everything can be right if it fits the situation and the people in it. We don´t think that everyone can be a leader, some people just don´t fit to the role, don´t have the powerful personality that´s needed.  Although you are born with the right personality to be a good leader you still have a long way to go before you become a great leader. It’s a lot of things you have to know about yourself and about the peoples who you are going to lead before you can lead the group in right direction.

The personality of a leader is today more important than the competence that he possess. It´s important that a leader can push, inspire, motivate and be a good model for the employees. A good leader is a leader that gives the employees goals. The leader should also make sure that there is a good working environment. He should make the people feel involved in discussions and decision making and give them responsibility to make own decisions and come up with new ideas so they can develop as individuals. Communication is another thing that a leader should manage and even if the leader have to be good at communication he also have to be a good listener.

Challenges in leading a generation y person

  • The Generation Y easily gets bored if they don´t have variation in their work tasks, which can be challenging for an older manager to understand. The generation Y employee wants challenges in his work.
  • It´s important to keep the generation Y employee happy with his work because he always keeps his options open. If he gets bored ha easily changes work place.
  • The generation Y talks a lot with other people with the help of social media for example so it´s good to treat the generation Y employee good because otherwise the employee will probably express himself in a way that many people see and that’s not good for the company´s welfare.
  • The generation Y needs structure; they need to know what they should do and when they should do what. They are used to have a schedule that is full with activities.
  • The generation Y questions everything and wants to explore new ways to do things. This can be a problem if the manager is old-fashioned and isn’t open for change.
